Faithful Response to the Economy
I hear it said that in difficult economic times, we often wring our hands and lament our fate. We often see those about us experience fear, anxiety, and guilt because some HAVE jobs; or extreme sadness because they don’t. We also can take this time to be a time of opportunity: A time to focus on what we have to spend, what we value most, and how we can increase the joy in our lives without money being the primary driver. We can take this as a time to reach out and help those who are worse off than we are and learn how to ask for what we might need as well. We can figure out how we can lead abundant lives because we are focused on our values. This can be an opportunity rather than a crisis. [More]

Brattleboro's Good Neighbors
Rev. Barbro Hansson
With the arrival of March, we enter the fourth month of providing a winter emergency overflow shelter and a nutritious, warm meal at the end of the day for Brattleboro’s homeless individuals and families. We are committed to keeping the Overflow Shelter open through the end of March, and longer if the cold weather persists.
At this writing, an average of 25 individuals per night have stayed at the Overflow Shelter. The Shelter, housed at First Baptist Church on Main Street in Brattleboro, involves more than 100 volunteers who staff the two overnight shifts from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., as well as 16 faith communities and 17 different groups of people from the community at large who provide meals every evening on a rotating basis. UU University at General Assembly
We are pleased to announce that this year UU University will be integrated into General Assembly programming. UUU 2009 will be the only GA program from noon on Thursday to noon on Friday, and will offer your choice of six tracks of intensive programming designed to promote best practices within our congregations. Each track will provide opportunities for reflection and engagement, integration and experiential learning.
The programs are designed to speak to GA participants of all ages, with all levels of experience of Unitarian Universalism, and from congregations of all sizes. We encourage you to think about sending a team from your congregation so that you may experience and learn from a variety of tracks.
There will be something for everyone at UU University 2009!
