FAQs About Congregational responses to Environmental Concerns
How can we engage more members of the congregation who are not already environmental or social activists to help them feel more hopeful and connected to a positive direction around environmental concerns?
Have conversations in your congregation, and listen to peoples’ concerns and ideas. Ask your youth and young adults for ideas. They are often leaders in this arena.
Then organize where there is energy. Consider starting with things that save money, can build community, and can be uplifting for all ages:

Do not start with the Styrofoam cup debate: it stops conversation right away! This conversation tends to make people feel judged or hopeless immediately. We want to move forward together, not encourage separation between “those who care” (labeled fanatics) and “those who are not on board” (at least not on board the way another subgroup is). There is a great set of guidelines on pp 4-5 of this guidebook.
There are thousands of ideas – it will help to find what your folks feel connected to.
