Small Congregations FAQs
Resources for Small Congregations
FAQs about Connection between UU congregations and the larger UU world.
We seem to have been surviving just fine on our own. What are the benefits of being connected to other UU congregations?
There was a time when Unitarian and Universalist congregations covenanted to support one another. See the Commission on Appraisal’s Report for more information. With time and a culture that emphasizes individuality over community, our congregations moved away from that covenant and lost much of the support of connection.
Now congregations are rediscovering the power of sharing information, resources and vision. Your District web site will connect you to resources, events and other congregations in the District.
In addition we invite you to learn the ways your participation in both Annual Program Fund (District) and Fair Share (UUA) powerfully supports your congregation and our larger faith community
How are lay leaders connected?
Each member of a UUA member congregation (individuals certified by the congregations with the UUA as members at the beginning of each new year) becomes eligible to receive by mail the UUWorld Magazine (available on line and also in audio by request). Visit the UUA website to learn more. At this site you can do a search (upper right corner of the home page) with a key word (UU World Magazine, General Assembly, leaders library, congregational services, etc. etc.) Or go to ‘Leader’s or ‘I am interested in’ and draw down a list of options for each.
Lay leaders listed with the District will receive mailings and emails from the District that are appropriate for that lay position. Please contact the District Office if you are not receiving those emails and should be.
The District web site will also lead you to scheduled events and resources available through your District. Watch for cluster gatherings of lay leaders which provide information and support to do the work.
